Freeland is an unincorporated town in Island County and has been experiencing growth over the past several years.

Freeland is not a municipality; therefore leadership for change has devolved to the two most visibly active organizations in the area, the Freeland Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Freeland. These two organizations represent the business and civic interests of Freeland. They share Directors, volunteers, and have many common interests.

The Vision 2025 Committee has been given the task of bringing the community together to develop a vision of the town in 2025. This effort is a joint activity of the Freeland Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Freeland and is chaired by Mike Dolan. The activity, called “Vision 2025 – The Future of Freeland”, will have a physical model, issue displays and a multi-media presentation for community review and input. The objective is to serve the long-term common good of the community, start and sustain a community conversation that is ongoing, enhance informal citizen involvement, and facilitate a community process for developing a vision for Freeland, which guides the community and its relations with Island County government.

There are two assumptions all Vision 2025 activities are predicated on: a) approval of the Freeland Sub-Area Plan and b) implementation of the Comprehensive Sewer Plan. It is not too early to begin defining our vision for Freeland. It is not mandatory that both predicates become reality in order to implement a vision for Freeland in cooperation with the County.
